SDS Showcases SMART Cable Technology at Arctic Circle Assembly
Subsea Data Systems President Matt Fouch traveled to Reykjavik, Iceland this October to participate in the 2024 Arctic Circle Assembly, one of the premier international forums dedicated to Arctic issues and sustainable development in the region.
Held from October 17-19, 2024 the Assembly brought together leaders from government, business, science, and civil society to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the Arctic. For Matt, it was an ideal platform to demonstrate how subsea technology can support environmental monitoring in some of the world's most critical and vulnerable marine ecosystems.
Matt had the pleasure of teaming with Battelle to showcase the latest developments in SDS's SMART Cable sensor system. This collaboration highlighted the powerful synergy between innovative technology and environmental monitoring, demonstrating how submarine telecommunications infrastructure can do double duty—connecting communities while simultaneously gathering vital oceanographic, seismic, and climate data.
The Arctic presents unique challenges and opportunities for submarine cable deployment. As climate change accelerates in polar regions, the need for continuous, reliable environmental monitoring has never been greater. SMART Cables offer a solution that leverages existing or planned telecommunications infrastructure to provide scientists and policymakers with the real-time data they need to understand and respond to Arctic changes.
The collaboration with Battelle underscores Subsea Data Systems' commitment to advancing subsea data acquisition and analysis through collaborative innovation.
