Showcasing SMART Cables at Subsea NEXUS Oslo 2025
At the Subsea NEXUS Oslo 2025 conference, Subsea Data Systems President Matt Fouch, presented the SMART Cables initiative and Subsea Data Systems’ rapid hardware development to an audience of global subsea and connectivity leaders.
In a region where enhanced observation is critical, Dr. Fouch highlighted how integrating sensors into commercial telecommunications cables can strengthen ocean monitoring, climate science, and disaster resilience. The presentation underscored the transformative potential of SMART Cable technology to deliver both connectivity and scientific insight in some of the world’s most remote and data-scarce environments.
Dr. Fouch joined leading voices from Space Norway, NORDUnet, Far North Digital, the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC), DLA Piper, and others in discussions on the future of Arctic connectivity, geopolitics, and environmental intelligence.
The event reinforced growing international momentum behind the SMART Cables vision—leveraging subsea infrastructure to support sustainable technology, global resilience, and a deeper understanding of our changing planet.
